Preventive Maintenance for the Structure
When we think about a photovoltaic system, we usually think about the modules. However, there’s an equally essential component that often goes unnoticed: the supporting structure.
These structures are subjected to constant dynamic loads. To ensure they fulfill their function throughout the system’s entire lifespan, it is crucial to carry out preventive maintenance. Here we explain what you should evaluate annually and why it’s important.
What should be checked during maintenance?
1. Torque settings
This involves verifying that all screws are tightened to the torque values specified in the structure’s assembly manuals. This is done through a representative sampling that covers all types of joints, ensuring everything is properly secured.
2. Verification of ballasts and anchors
- For ballasted structures: check that the counterweights are correctly positioned and match the assembly drawings.
- For structures anchored to footings, counterweights, substructures, or directly to the building, verify the condition and placement of the anchor bolts, ensuring there is no looseness or movement that could affect the system.
3. Inspection for deformations
Look for any impacts or permanent deformations in the structure or profiles that could alter the support’s functionality.
- If a component is deformed, it must be replaced.
- If the deformation affects the entire structure, complete replacement is necessary.
4. Corrosion control and cleaning
