Tier 1 List of Solar Panel Manufacturers – Q1 2025
The Tier 1 list of solar panel manufacturers for the first quarter of 2025 has been published by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. This ranking is one of the most important in the photovoltaic industry, as it reflects the bankability of manufacturers—a key criterion for investors and developers of large-scale solar projects.
What Does It Mean to Be a Tier 1 Manufacturer?
BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list does not directly assess the quality of solar panels but rather the financial strength of the manufacturer. To be included in the list, a manufacturer must have supplied panels to at least six projects financed on a non-recourse basis by six different banks in the past two years.
This means that banks trust these manufacturers’ panels as a secure investment for large projects, reducing financial risk and facilitating the funding of photovoltaic plants.
TOP 5: Leading Manufacturers in the Tier 1 List for Q1 2025
The new list includes well-established companies in the solar industry as well as some new additions. Among the most notable manufacturers, ranked by their annual production capacity in MW, we find:
- Jinko Solar – 120,000 MW
- Trina Solar – 100,000 MW
- JA Solar – 100,000 MW
- Tongwei – 85,000 MW
- Canadian Solar – 61,000 MW

How Does This List Impact the Photovoltaic Market?
Being included in the Tier 1 list is a key financial endorsement for manufacturers, as it increases their credibility in the sector and facilitates the financing of large solar projects. However, it’s important to remember that a solar panel’s quality is not determined by its presence on this list, but rather by other factors such as efficiency, warranties, and quality certifications.
