Sungrow SH-RL: Hybrid Inverters for Solar Self-Consumption and Energy Storage
The Sungrow SH-RL series includes four single-phase hybrid inverters designed to manage PV generation, battery charging and discharging, and residential electricity supply.
A key feature is its low-voltage battery architecture, supporting a battery operating range of 40 to 60 V.
The SH5RL and SH6RL models feature two independent MPPTs, while the SH8RL and SH10RL offer three MPPTs for greater system design flexibility.

Key technical features include:
- 20 A per MPPT: compatibility with high-current PV modules, within the electrical limits of each input.
- 40–425 V MPPT range: flexibility when designing PV strings.
- Backup function: switching time of ≤4 ms under typical conditions.
- Backup peak power: up to 200% of rated power for 10 seconds, subject to system limitations.
- AFCI protection: electric arc fault detection.
- PID Zero technology: mitigation of potential-induced degradation.
- iSolarCloud monitoring: access to system operating data.
- IP65 protection rating: equipment protection under the manufacturer’s specified installation conditions.

When Should You Choose the SH5RL or SH6RL?
The SH5RL is suitable when 5 kW of rated power meets the installation requirements. The SH6RL offers greater conversion capacity and supports higher recommended PV input power. Selection should consider household consumption, PV array configuration, grid connection capacity and storage requirements.
Sungrow SH8RL and SH10RL: 8 kW and 10 kW Hybrid Inverters
The SH8RL and SH10RL are designed for residential installations with higher energy requirements. Their main difference from the 5 and 6 kW models is the inclusion of three independent MPPTs, enabling the management of three PV strings and different roof orientations.
SH8RL and SH10RL Technical Specifications
| Specification | SH8RL | SH10RL |
|---|---|---|
| Rated AC output power | 8,000 W | 10,000 W |
| Maximum recommended PV input power | 16,000 Wp | 20,000 Wp |

Both models feature fan cooling, dimensions of 552 × 448 × 250 mm and a weight below 27 kg.
When Should You Choose the SH8RL or SH10RL?
These models can suit projects with higher electricity demand or PV arrays requiring three MPPT trackers. The SH10RL supports up to 20 kWp of recommended PV input power, with a maximum usable PV input power of 16 kWp.
Sungrow SH5RL, SH6RL, SH8RL and SH10RL Comparison
The main differences between these four inverters are rated power, number of MPPT trackers and battery charging and discharging limits.
| Model | AC output | MPPTs | Recommended PV | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SH5RL | 5 kW | 2 | 10 kWp | Natural |
| SH6RL | 6 kW | 2 | 12 kWp | Natural |
| SH8RL | 8 kW | 3 | 16 kWp | Fan |
| SH10RL | 10 kW | 3 | 20 kWp | Fan |
Technical consideration: maximum recommended PV input power is different from maximum usable PV input power. Each string design must also comply with the manufacturer’s voltage, current and MPPT operating limits.

Backup Function: Power Supply During Grid Outages
The SH-RL series can supply the loads connected to the backup circuit during a grid outage, provided that the system is correctly configured and sufficient energy is available.
The specified switching time is ≤4 ms under typical conditions. The inverters can also deliver peak power of up to twice their rated power for 10 seconds, under applicable operating conditions.
Maximum Continuous Backup Power
| Model | Continuous backup output power |

| SH5RL | 5,500 W |
| SH6RL | 6,600 W |
| SH8RL | 8,800 W |
| SH10RL | 11,000 W |
The actual power available depends on the inverter, the battery state of charge and specifications, and the connected loads. The switching time alone does not guarantee uninterrupted operation for every sensitive electronic device.
