MYTHS & TRUTHS

MYTHS & TRUTHS

Solar energy has become an increasingly popular and viable option for generating clean and sustainable electricity.

However, there are some persistent myths that may dissuade people from considering it as a viable energy source.

We at VICO EXPORT SOLAR ENERGY are going to debunk some of these misconceptions.

MYTH: SOLAR PANELS ONLY WORK WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING

REALITY:While it is true that solar panels are most effective on sunny days, they can still generate electricity in cloudy or rainy conditions. Solar panels use sunlight, not necessarily direct radiation from the sun, to generate power. Even on cloudy days, solar energy can contribute significantly to the production of electricity.

MYTH: THERE IS NO POINT IN INSTALLING SOLAR PANELS IN THE NORTH

REALITY: Spain is one of the areas with the highest number of sunshine hours per year, which means that in all regions of Spain there is sufficient solar radiation to be able to save money with a photovoltaic system.

MYTH: SOLAR PANELS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO INSTALL

REALITY: Although the installation of solar panels may require an initial investment, costs have been reduced considerably in recent years. In addition, there are tax incentives and financing programmes available in many places that help make solar energy more affordable. Installing solar panels can help us save a significant percentage of our electricity bill, ranging from 40-90% depending on the type of installation. It is important to consider the long-term savings on electricity bills, as solar panels can generate electricity for decades.

MYTH: SOLAR ENERGY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR MY GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

REALITY: Solar energy is viable in a wide range of geographic locations. Solar panels do not need to be exposed to sunny weather all year round to be effective. Even in areas with cloudy or colder climates, solar panels can generate a significant amount of energy. Advances in solar technology have also allowed for greater performance in low light conditions.

MYTH: PANEL MANUFACTURING IS HIGHLY POLLUTING

REALITY:The waste generated by the energy expenditure involved in producing a solar panel is very small compared to the benefits. Although they do generate some waste, the panels have a useful life of at least 30 years, during which time they will be producing completely clean and environmentally friendly energy.

In addition, the manufacturing process of solar panels is not very polluting, as they are made of silicon, glass aluminium and copper. It should also be noted that once the solar panels have reached the end of their useful life, up to 95% of their materials can be reused.

MYTH: RENEWABLES CANNOT MEET ENERGY DEMAND

REALITY: Solar energy can cover the required energy needs, as long as there is proper planning. Make sure that the company with which you are going to make your installation first makes a study of the use of energy and gives you the best solution to meet your needs. If you have any doubts, contact us so we can advise you.

MYTH: SOLAR PANELS ARE NOT EFFICIENT

REALITY: Despite what it may seem, not all the sunlight that falls on a solar panel is actually converted into electricity, but only a percentage. Logically, the higher this percentage of efficiency, the greater the power of the panel and, therefore, its performance, which is what we are ultimately interested in in terms of saving on our electricity bill.

As awareness of the importance of sustainable energy grows, it is essential to clarify the myths surrounding solar energy. It is important to emphasise that solar panels are a highly cost-effective, efficient and sustainable alternative for generating clean electricity.
